Sound Quality - It’s a waterproof portable speaker but the audio quality is good but not improved despite the increased price.

Price - It could pass easily for a 200 or even a 250 dollar speaker especially in terms of durability.

Upgrade - All in all, the UE Boom 3 is a solid little speaker that addresses some of the issues of its predecessor, the UE Boom 2, with 15-feet wireless range increase, increased waterproofing, and changeable equalizer settings.

- Positive

Build & Portability - In terms of portability, the speaker ticks all the right boxes: it’s light, easy to carry, and has an impressive 15 hours of playback from a single charge. The threaded mount and metal loop are gone, replaced by an integrated canvas loop toward the top of the speaker. It is ip67 certified, which means you can submerge this into water for 30 minutes and the bonus points is, it floats.
Microphone - The UE BOOM 3 unfortunately does not have a microphone.

Ports - It’s disappointing that both the speaker and the dock use micro-USB instead of USB Type-C. You don't need the charging dock to charge the speaker, however.

Design - UE BOOM 3 easily fits anywhere that a water bottle would—whether that’s in your bag, your car’s cup holder, or even the water bottle bracket on your bike. It has a cylindrical shape with around 18cm of height, and 360-degree audio. Build quality is solid, and it has an entire new design makeover making it immediately recognizable as a UE product, and the difference include the replacement of the soft plastic bumper down the middle of the speaker with plus and minus buttons, which is now a slimmer plastic strip down the speaker’s spine. Also, it comes in range of two-tone iridescent fabric finishes, including sunset red, lagoon blue, forest green, and night black.
Buttons - There are a total of five buttons which are all visible and easy to navigate. The buttons are for volume, power, pairing, and a toggle for play/pause and skip track. Build-wise, they are distinctive in shape, and are easy to feel even in the dark. However, the small loop on the bvack to hang it is a bit small to be useful. Performance-wise, the multifunction button when held for 3 seconds, and set up with the app will allow you to switch between playlists through your phone. Double tap for skip to next song, and triple tap to return to previous song.

Bluetooth & Pairing - Boom 3 has increased the range of Bluetooth making the connectivity reliable and solid. Also, the new App feature of Boom 3 allows two devices to connect to the speaker at once. Pairing to UE Boom 3 is very simple and easy. Specifically, Bluetooth range is up to 150 feet with no poblems at ~50 feet and 100 feet with no walls in the way, and it can recognize up to 8 different Bluetooth devices, but only 2 at a time.
Stereo Link - You can link 2 UE Boom 3 to create a stereo sound.

App - Boom 3 comes with an app that allows you to tweak the sound of your speaker to your liking. Using the App feature, you can also pair the speaker with another product from UE. It also has a basic EQ so you can tweak the sound of the speaker to your liking.
Battery - This speaker has an amazing battery life that’s rated for 15 hours, which is similar to the earlier Boom and Megaboom speakers. In actual use, it lasted for 8-15 hours depending on use, but it’s not as good as other less expensive speakers that can play music for 24-hours straight.
Charging - To charge the UE Boom 3, you can either connect it to a power source using the micro-USB, or use Ultimate Ears’ own charging dock, which gives you a couple of different options depending on whether you’re on the go or listening at home.
Water & Dust Resistance - It comes with an incredible IP67 waterproof and dust-proof rating, which means it can be submerged underwater for up to 30 minutes. Plus, it floats in the water. Also, they claim it to be drop proof, and in actual scenario it did survive a fall from the bed.

Performance & Specifications

- Treble
- Specifications
- Positive
- Negative
Bass - The low end is emphasized, but the drivers aren’t big enough to do bass notes any justice. The bass competes with vocals too often and often ends up masking them. Also, the bass frequencies are good for its size, but the mid frequencies are average with heavy vocals and keys making it slightly subdued in contrast to bass.
Loudness - It puts more emphasis on being loud than sounding good making it suitable for outdoors like a beach or park. Performance-wise, it’s great out of the box with no EQ tweaking.

Sound - The Audio quality is good but not overwhelming with most people being satisfied with the bass. The sound quality of this speaker has been improved compared to the previous models.
Treble - Treble frequencies had the same problem, with a general lack of clarity in the top notes, and the high end doesn’t sound like there’s much holding it back, resulting to distortion and harshness at high volumes. Also, most issues seemed to be at volumes greater than 80 percent, while at regular volumes, there aren’t too many issues. Specifically, in Belle and Sebastian’s ‘Your Cover’s Blown’, the highest frequencies could have benefitted from a sharper kick, and in the Vampire Weekend ‘Horchata’ where the bells and cymbals sound too loud compared to everything else.

UE Boom 3 vs JBL Charge 4 - Beachgoers or people in rainy climates will appreciate the IP67 rating. A user living in the Pacific Northwest where it rains every day found waterproofing their things a necessity, thus, they suggest those who like the JBL Charge 4 but want something more portable to appreciate the UE Boom 3’s size, even though the Charge 4 is a great speaker for its price, comes with some cool features, and is large with a built-in stand and bulging shape making it great for the deck or the yard, it isn’t as easy to bring around as the UE BOOM 3.
