The PanOxyl Acne is a clinically-proven cleanser that treats and prevents the worst breakouts making it a real deal at an affordable price, even for a drugstore skincare product.
Efficacy - It's a clinically-proven cleanser that treats and prevents the worst breakouts making it a real deal at an affordable price, even for a drugstore skincare product.
Key Information - It's a maximum-strength foaming wash that contains 10% benzoyl peroxide. It cleans and unclogs pores on the face, chest, and back, clears existing acne blemishes, helps prevent new blemishes from forming, and promotes the exfoliation of dead skin cells.
Recommendation - If you are looking for a great acne-clearing wash, then it's recommended. Also, you won't be disappointed if you want to restore your skin to a fresh and clean state. Lastly, it's greatly recommended if you suffer from mild or severe acne.
Cons - Its cons are that it contains Methyl Paraben and SLS, it should be avoided from touching the hair, and dry-skinned users need to moisturize heavily.
Pros - Its pros are that it's inexpensive, has sturdy packaging, is creamy and easy to spread, starts to subside existing acne in a couple of uses, has a huge quantity, doesn't dry out extremely oily skin, doesn't aggravate the acne, doesn't irritate the skin, and helps in preventing new acne.
10% Concentration - The 10% is high, and it's important to note that 2.5% is just as effective as even higher concentrations and that cleansers/gels that you apply and then wash off after 3-5min are less likely to cause a lot of irritation/drying but moisturizer is still very important. Overall, it may not be best to use it in the face as it might be too aggressive.
4% Concentration - The 4% is a bit better, but you must use a moisturizer and SPF daily to combat dryness and photosensitivity. It's more recommended than the 10% but whichever works for you, then continue it as long as it's not drying out your skin or making it overly sensitive.
Benzoyl Peroxide - Its active ingredient is Benzoyl peroxide, which helps reduce inflammation, works as a skin-peeling agent to unclog pores, and helps prevent new blemishes from forming. Specifically, it's an antibacterial that helps reduce the number of bacteria on the skin's surface that contributes to acne. It's one of the strongest acne-active ingredients, and it comes to up to 10% concentration, which is the highest amount you can get without a prescription.
Benzoyl Peroxide - Side Effects - You need a short contact time of 2-3 minutes to get all the advantages of benzoyl peroxide, which does reduce the risk of side effects, including dryness, irritation, and peeling, which are common.
Concentrations - Most benzoyl peroxide washes don't have a 2.5% option, and PanOxyl only has 4% and 10%, while Benzac has 5% only. Though lesser percentages are equally effective since it's a wash form, it's left on the skin for a very short period.
Contents & Ingredients - Generally, PanOxyl washes are pH balanced and contain 4 different emollients and 3 different humectants to deliver hydration to the skin and to keep the skin moisturized and cut down on the risk of dryness and irritation associated with the benzoyl peroxide, making it ideal for people with sensitive skin who need to use benzoyl peroxide as part of their acne routine as it's an antiseptic that kills acne-causing bacteria. It helps remove dirt and unclog pores. Specifically, the ingredients are Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Glycolic Acid, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Imidurea, Lactic Acid, Methylparaben, Mineral Oil, PEG-14M, Potassium Lauryl Sulfate, Purified Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium PCA, Titanium Dioxide, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch.
Lactic Acid - It contains lactic acid, a good AHA or alpha hydroxy acid that helps remove the extra layer of dead skin to leave refined and refreshed skin.
Mineral Oil - It contains some mineral oil that helps bring back moisture and hydration, but it can be comedogenic, clog pores a bit, and is not great for the environment.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - It contains sodium lauryl sulfate, common in soaps but very stripping like a detergent. It's gonna strip the skin and irritate it, especially for dry and sensitive skin types.
T-Butyl Alcohol - It contains t-butyl alcohol, and alcohols are not great in face products because they dry out the skin, but they're common in acne products.
Titanium Dioxide - It contains a bit of titanium dioxide, a mineral SPF that helps prevent sun damage, but it's not enough to be in SPF; thus, it's still recommended to wean an SPF.
Consistency - It's a thick white cream that turns a milky liquid once rubbed on the skin. It's also easy to apply and spread on the skin, so only a small amount is needed.
10% - Performance - The 10% concentration is great for pimples under the skin as it clears up breakouts fast and targets cystic acne. However, because it has a high concentration, the risk of irritation, sensitivity, and dryness is higher.
10% - Too Strong - The 10% concentration can be too strong for some users and cause purging with red spots and breakouts. But it can be used for body acne if it's too strong for the face.
4% - Performance - The 4% concentration is proven effective at targeting acne-causing bacteria, which can help prevent or treat breakouts. It also helps in maintaining clear skin as it's more gentle on the skin and non-stripping.
Combination With Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser - Using it in combination with Cetaphil Gentle cleanser in the morning and before the PanOxyl 4% at night helps prevent breakouts for acne-prone oily skin and during periods. Overall, it has made the users' skin brighter and clearer.

Performance - Breakouts have mostly subsided, pores have begun to clear out, and the face has become less oily after using PanOxyl. Though there's still hyperpigmentation and breakout aftermath, it gives a sense of safety knowing that it's a reliable $9 face wash during the worst and most mysterious flare-ups.,
Performance - 4% - The 4% works well and using it every morning and night shows a visible change in the forehead acne as it seems to be clearing up and is not oily in the morning anymore.
Performance - Acne - It's suggested that PanOxyl should only be applied once per day. A user using the 4% for about 6-8 weeks has found it to have done a good job maintaining the acne, though 2-3 whiteheads still appear every 4-5 days, which is an improvement as they previously got more than 2-3. Another user said that in a few weeks of using PanOxyl, they went from a face covered with pimples to having very few that don't last long. Other users have also claimed it to be effective for clearing up acne on their face and body, but some still suggest being careful in using it and watching out for signs of dryness and irritation. It's also said that effects may take weeks to months to appear, and it may take time to get used to, so it's best to start with low strength.
Breakout - The Cerave line worked well for the user, but the PanOxyl caused them to give terrible breakouts; thus, they will repurpose it for ingrown hairs.
Comedones - The routing worked for a few months for the user, but they started to notice more closed comedones after a while. Specifically, they were using it twice a day and sometimes 3 times. The user suffers from hormonal acne, which the mask aggravated. Thus, they switched to a salicylic acid-based cleanser, Erno Laszlo Light Controlling Lotion toner, and sunscreen, which seemed to have worked.
Drying - A user has been using the 10% for 4 days and finds it to work well though it's causing a bit of drying. Another user experienced severe drying and has switched to only using it at night.
Purging - Some users have experienced purging, although they're unsure if it's normal. One has been using it for 3 weeks on the affected area; however, more bumps have appeared.
10% vs 4% - The 4% is as effective as 10% for controlling acne, reducing the amount of Propionibacterium acnes in the skin, and reducing the burden of acne lesions. However, higher strengths will get you to that level of control quicker than lower percentage strengths. Still, higher percentage strengths are more likely to cause side effects of dryness, irritation, and peeling.
Comparison vs Salicylic Acid - Benzoyl peroxide seems more effective than salicylic acid in controlling acne flare-ups. A user alternates between salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and Hibiclens in controlling underarm hidradenitis suppurativa, which seems to work.
