Downsides - Despite its size, it has a rather limited dust spin and struggles to pick up edge debris. A long-haired carpet can easily cause the rubber side brush to become caught, which can break the brush's arm. Hence, a regular side brush would be more advisable for such carpets. Another issue is that, at lower power levels, the primary brush makes an odd noise that is louder than the suction.
Pros - It mops hard floors effectively and takes up the majority of dirt quite well on both carpet and hard surfaces.

Bumping - It used to work well but now bumps occasionally and won't back up to free itself. The sensors are clean, but its wall bumping behavior still shows in specific locations.
Carpet - On carpets, it performed just as well in terms of picking up all of the different sorts and sizes of dirt, and there's no side brush stalling issues. Also, when it detects carpet, the carpet mode boosts the suction power. Performance-wise, it scored an above-average 78 after 5 minutes, and in a deep cleaning test on carpet, it collected 6 grams of material after 3 passes over a carpeted area that had 30 grams of fine particles embedded in it.
Cleaning History - The cleaning history shows all the cleans it did, how long it has been on, and if a maintenance is required for the filter and brush.

Cleaning Path - It plans out its path, scans the room, scans the furniture, goes around everything fairly well, and will give you 100% coverage. The application can be used to see where it is and where it has cleaned. The S5 Max employs its wide cleaning path and repeated movements over the same areas to clean up well over time, and the overall cleaning path of this robot is fairly wide.
Cleaning Pattern - It performs well in a cluttered room, moving freely and easily around all of the obstacles in the room, especially under the table and around the chair legs.

Lackluster Edge Performance - The S5 Max has a subpar edge performance; its dust spin is a little small. The robot is wide which gives it a wider cleaning path, allowing it to cover more space and clean more quickly in a single cleaning run. It is tall, but this comes at the expense of lighter navigation, requiring the mounting of a laser on the top of the robot.
Maintenance - The brushes eventually“These brushes do eventually wear out and I think I'm on my like fourth or fifth one now and of course you can remove this just like the original so this comes out you're able to clean get the hair out and whatnot.” wear out, but it can be replaced. You can also pull the brush out to get the hair out and other debris off it.

Mapping - The robot needs to learn the room's layout and create a map during the initial cleaning, and when it's finished, the app shows the area that the robot covered and the route that it followed. As the robot becomes more accustomed to the space, subsequent cleanings become more intelligent and efficient. There are also several app updates, such as the room choose function, where you can separate and name the rooms in your home after it makes a map so that you may instruct it to clean specific rooms but not others, which allows you to fully tailor your scheduled cleanings.
Max Mode - The S5 Max is ideal for maintenance cleaning, allowing you to keep the floor clean for around a week before moving to manual cleaning. The Max mode easily cleans surface-level filth, but deeper stains requires a manual mop.
Modes - Many options are available, including Gentle, Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, and Max, which you can use depending on the type of cleaning you want. Though in most cases, the Balanced is sufficient enough, while the Max is a decent option for a deeper clean.

Mopping Feature - The new software features for mopping are great, especially the no-go lines that you set up, and no mop zones which will only be recognized if you have the mop pad attached. The S5 max is the first Roborock to have a separate detachable electric water tank that can hold significantly more water than the previous model. It now includes an app-adjustable water dispenser that is electronically regulated.
Mopping Test - It does a great job but not enough for heavier spills. The S5 Max also has a mopping attachment, and it cleaned the test surface under 2 minutes. The S5 Max can clean lighter stains in one run but will need 2 or more runs for heavier stains.
Mopping - The S5 Max is simple to use and offers various mopping options. To set-up, just fill the reservoir with water, attach the mop bracket, and it will enter automated mopping mode. There are three different water level options available. Performance-wise, it does great but not enough to scrub the floor to remove a stain.
Navigation - The Roborock S5 Max moved right up near the edges and was able to clean most of the flour, for instance, on the floor. It uses a LiDAR to map out your house and develop an accurate map on its first run. Overall, its ability to navigate and avoid obstacles was excellent, and it also had greater than average climbing ability.
Obstacles - The S5 Max climbs reasonably well and shouldn't need much rescuing. Upon testing, it only got stuck once throughout the testing period, and it was even able to cope with a 2 cm high door threshold.

Performance - The S5 Max collects a good amount of dust and dirt on hardwood floors after operating for 8 hours, and it has the ability to mop and vacuum at the same time. However, in actual use, it functions more like a regular vacuum with a quick wipe down afterwards.
Pet Hair Pick Up Test - The S5 Max was able to pick up all short pet hair, and it was able to resist 100% of the 1 gram of 5-inch hair on maximum power. However, increasing the amount or length of hair from that point onward will cause some light tangling.
Pick Up Test - The S5 Max seems to be the best vacuum in terms of pick up abilities of various types and sizes of trash without dispersing debris with their side brush or blowing it around with their exhaust.
Picking Debris - The S5 Max did an excellent job of gathering up dirt from carpets and hard floors.

Restrictions - You can put limitations like "no-go zones" and "no-mopping areas", and no matter what mode the robot is in, no-go zones are off limits; however, no-mopping zones only prevent the robot from entering when the mop is attached.
Mopping Outcome - The mopping outcomes were, as good as with the Roborock S6. There were barely any streaks on the kitchen floor after it was cleaned evenly, and enough pressure was used to pick up some stains. Although stick-mopping is still occasionally necessary, this should lessen how often it is required.

Set-Up - Set up is simple once the S5 Max is online, you can customize how it cleans by following the onscreen instructions. It can also connect to Alexa, where you can use voice commands and schedule cleaning, and a lesson on connecting is available in the program. The S5 Max already has all of its brushes assembled; all you need to do is set up the charging station.
Suction Settings - There are four suction settings on the S5 Max: balanced, turbo, silent, and maximum. The noise level is 58 dB. For hard wood floors, its suction can reach 2,000 Pa maximum, which is more than adequate, and on one of the higher settings, it is powerful enough for carpet. But it will only get rid of fluff and surface crumbs from carpet.
Total Water Shutoff - The S5 Max's "Total Water Shutoff," prevents it from leaking when docked, allowing you to keep the mopping module stocked and prepared for its next task.

Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 930 vs Roborock S5 Max - Compared to the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 930, the S5 Max seems to be more impressive, user-friendly, and comprehensive in its cleaning. The Roborock S5 Max is a great, reasonably priced alternative if your home has a lot of hard floors.

S5 vs S5 Max - The dustbin capacity on the S5 Max has decreased to 460 mL, but it still uses the same washable filter. In order to prevent it from going down any steps, they have the charging contacts at the top, which are 360-degree contacts, and all the sensors are identical to those on the original S5 model. The big difference between the S5 and S5 Max is that the Max is focused on mopping with a 219mL capacity whereas the mopping on the S5, can only mop a little bit because the tank has only 140 mL. The main brush and the side brush have changed a little with a 5 star rubber, which is more efficient. The vacuum can also detect and know if the mopping module is on. Lastly, they are similar in terms of the 360-degree laser distance scanner.
S6 Pure vs S5 Max - The S5 Max includes a bigger water tank, an electronically controlled water spray, and "no mop zones" that you may select so it won't mop on things you don't want wet. In terms of mopping, both S6 Pure and S5 Max perform well.
S6 vs S5 Max - The S5 Max and S6 have the same engine, battery, and 2000 Pa suction power rating with 480ml vs. 460ml, the dust bin on the S5 and S6 is actually bigger than the one on the S5 Max. Though S5 Max is superior for the new mopping feature, the S6 has more lasers for better navigation. The S5 Max had slightly more airflow than the earlier S5 and S6, even though the S6 probably has less power by design to achieve better battery life numbers. The S6 performed slightly better than the other two in the test for picking up trash from crevices, collecting the majority of the debris from an eighth-inch crevice and a little bit more from a quarter-inch crevice.
S6 vs S6 Max vs S5 Max - The S5 Max is by no means a basic gadget, despite not being the newest, most powerful, or most feature-rich of the lot. In actuality, it's a superb all-around robot vacuum with every cleaning option imaginable.

S7 vs S5 Max - The S7 has an auto-empty dock that makes the entire procedure really convenient. The mopping function is mediocre because unless your home is quite small, you still need to switch out the mops between rooms. Using the 5S Max once a week is not enough for cleaning the house. Though both of models fall short of a true mop when it comes to cleaning, so neither one is good for mopping. But as vacuums, they're fantastic. However, it's not justifiable enough to pay more for the s7's superior vacuuming performance over the S5M.

Value - Except for the price, the S5 Max is almost perfect in terms of its ability to pick up signals and navigate. Its apps and maps are also among the best, if not the best in the business. It's a big step up from the S5, and all things considered, it's a great deal for what you get.

App Improvements - Some new features are even better than the Roborock S6. The S6 introduced a simple switch that allows you to control how much water was dispensed during each mopping job, whereas the S5 gave the user no control over how much water was dispensed during each mopping job. On the other hand, the S5 Max allows for more precise water management via the Mi Home companion app and fully integrates mopping with the robot's other advanced features. Selective room cleaning, which was previously only accessible on the S6, is now included with the S5 Max.

Overall Upgrade - In the application, there are some mopping zones that you can define with the app as no-go zones, areas to mop, areas not to mop, and in other places. Also, there's a larger water tank in addition to other minor adjustments. Main brushes are also upgraded with more bristles that are allegedly better at resisting pet hair tangles as well as enhanced side brushes composed of materials that are less prone to wear.
