Conclusion

Pros & Cons - It has a large, curved screen that provides great gaming immersion and wide space for work. It has a fast response time, low input lag, and can overclock 144Hz up to 160Hz refresh rate to deliver smoother and more responsive gameplay. Also, viewing angles are decent for sharing content; however, there's some loss of image accuracy when viewing from the side, so it might not be ideal for sharing that requires precision. Although the brightness can counter glare, it's not enough for a true HDR experience, and low contrast makes black appear gray. But it has full sRGB and Adobe RGB coverage.

Comfort - It has a 3440 x 1440 resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a 34-inch screen size that provides enough space to work and play with. For day-to-day use in Windows 10, opening multiple windows and apps at once is comfortable, and the curve results in less strain when viewing from edges. Also, the monitor provides a great immersive experience for gaming and watching.

Issues - Moving from VA to IPS can differ greatly in contrast. The IPS glow doesn't seem that bad in person, but it does look bad based on other IPS glow images. An issue is connecting to PS4 only outputs 16:9, as consoles don't support ultrawide. Some other issues include ghosting, and some troubleshooting steps include DLSS on/off, RTX on/off, and Windowed/Fullscreen, but none have made a difference. Moreover, the current additional specs are RTX 3090 FE, MSI X570 Tomahawk, AMD 5600X, 32 GB of RAM, New drivers, fresh Win10 install, and DP1.4 Vesa-certified cable.

Build Quality - The build quality is good and decent, almost identical to the LG 34GN850-B. Although made of all plastic, it feels sturdy, and the stand supports the screen well. There are no obvious gaps in the construction, but the cable management hook feels flimsy.

Build - Back - The back of the monitor is plain with a logo, a quick-release for VESA-mounting, a hook for cable management, and a series of LEDs that can sync with music or visual effects and are called Sphere Lighting 2.0. It's useful in the dark as more light is thrown onto the wall behind the monitor. The light sequence can be tweaked in the settings using the LG UltraGear Control Center software.

Stand - Adjustment - The stand is wide and deep but has thin feet, which allow things to be placed in between. It has red accents, and the actual 2 feet are raised a bit off the ground allowing the keyboard cable to go under. It supports the monitor with a little wobble, but it looks stable. It offers up to 110mm height adjustment, -5°/15° tilt, and 100x100mm VESA mount compatibility, but it cannot pivot or swivel.

Color Accuracy
Source
Color Accuracy - Post-Calibration - After calibration, the remaining color inaccuracies aren't visible to the naked eye, and the white balance is nearly perfect; the color temperature is colder than the 6500K target, while gamma is better, but with some dark and bright scenes that are slightly too bright.

Source
Color Accuracy - Pre-Calibration - Pre-calibration accuracy is decent, with most colors and shades of gray only slightly inaccurate and hard to spot; color temperature is warmer than the 6500K target, while gamma doesn't follow the sRGB curve leading to brighter scenes. Also, the dedicated sRGB mode will lock the Contrast, RGB, and Gamma settings. Accuracy varies between units.

Gradient - The gradient handling is good enough to keep banding off in most content, and setting the color depth to 10-bit limits the refresh rate to 144Hz.

Gray Uniformity - Gray uniformity shows some darkening around the edges, particularly at the top corners, and is much better in near-dark scenes, but there's almost no dirty screen effect in the center. Also, it varies between units.

HDR - HDR color gamut has good coverage of DCI-P3 color space used in most HDR content and decent coverage of the wider Rec. 2020. Due to the low contrast ratio, HDR color volume has difficulty producing dark colors and bright blues and greens. HDR peak brightness is near 400 cd/m², which is required for DisplayHDR 400 certification. Performance-wise, it brings out some highlights in games, especially when in a dark environment, but still not enough for a true cinematic HDR experience. But an expensive local dimming system would be needed to improve HDR picture quality.

Resolution - All will be clear with its 1440p resolution. It has 110PPIs and is the only 3440×1440 ultrawide gaming monitor with official certification. Performance-wise, it delivers an immersive gaming experience and offers widescreen space for multitasking. However, not all games support an ultrawide format, so there might be black bars at the sides, or the image might be stretched to fill the screen.

SDR - SDR color gamut covers the entire sRGB color space used in most content with excellent Adobe RGB coverage, mostly used for photo editing. SDR color volume only has trouble displaying dark colors due to the low contrast ratio. Still, peak brightness is near the advertised 400 cd/m², consistent in different contents, and bright enough to overcome glare in most lighting conditions.

sRGB - It delivers vibrant and punchy colors covering 98% of DCI-P3 color space but makes sRGB content appear over-saturated. However, an emulated picture mode for sRGB content restricts the color output to ~100% sRGB, allowing a more accurate color representation for sRGB content.

Viewing Angle - It has 178° wide viewing angles that allow watching at any angle without the picture degrading in quality. Horizontal viewing angles are decent, with quick black level and gamma change when moving to the right than to the left, but they should be fine for screen sharing. Vertical viewing angles allow images to remain relatively accurate even if mounted above eye level.

In contrast, 'Normal' eliminates all prominent trailing behind fast-moving objects without adding pixel overshoot.

Input Lag - Input lag is at ~4ms, which makes for an imperceptible delay between commands and results on the screen. It also helps in responsive gameplay. Also, the refresh rate over HDMI can reach 50Hz at 10-bit and 144Hz via DisplayPort at 10-bit.

Input Lag
Source
Refresh Rate & Response Time - The refresh rate has a 1ms response time at 144Hz and can be overclocked to 160Hz through the NVIDIA control panel. Still, it's only possible over a DisplayPort connection, and Adaptive Sync must be enabled in the monitor's OSD settings. Over HDMI, the refresh rate is limited to 85Hz, and FreeSync only works between 48Hz-85Hz while G-Sync only works over DisplayPort. Additionally, VRR synchronizes the monitor's refresh rate with GPU's frame rates, thus, removing all screen tearing and stuttering with a minimal input lag of ~1ms up to 160Hz. For games that support 10-bit color depth, the refresh rate can be dropped to 144Hz, 160Hz, and 8-bit color depth is most recommended against a 4:2:2 chroma subsampling as it makes text appear smudgy and fringy.

Response Time - 60Hz - Response time at 60Hz produces little to no blur tail, with the image a bit blurry than at max refresh rate. The best overdrive setting at 60Hz is 'Normal' because 'Off' is slower, and there is too much overshoot with the 'Fast' and 'Faster' options meaning the overdrive setting must be changed when in-game FPS drop.

Response Time - 60Hz

Response Time - Max Refresh Rate - At max refresh rate, the motion looks clear with almost no blur trail behind fast-moving objects. The best overdrive setting is 'Fast' because it provides the fastest response time while keeping overshoot acceptable.

Gaming - The 1ms response time, G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium compatibility, and fast refresh rate of 144Hz, all ensure it delivers great in gaming. For instance, Doom Eternal, played at 144Hz, results in an engaging and enjoyable experience, especially with the smooth action of tearing demons without a hint of screen tearing. Overall, the gameplay is super smooth, with no screen tearing.

HDR Gaming - The low input lag, fast response time, and high refresh rate contribute to delivering a smooth gaming experience. However, the overall HDR experience is sub-par due to the low contrast ratio, no local dimming, and lacking brightness to make highlights stand out, and enabling HDR limits the refresh rate to 144Hz.

Mixed Usage - The low input lag, exceptional response time, and high refresh rate make it great for gaming. At the same time, the large, high-resolution screen delivers an immersive viewing experience for media consumption and provides plenty of space for work. But, it can't deliver a satisfying HDR experience due to low contrast ratio, no local dimming, and lacking brightness.

Usage - Media Creation - The ultrawide format opens multiple windows side-by-side and makes it easier to lay out of timeline for editing videos. It has full sRGB, excellent Adobe RGB coverage, good gradient handling, and no color bleed with decent viewing angles, so it's not the best for screen sharing, but it gets bright enough to fight glare.

Usage - Multimedia - The large, high-resolution screen delivers an immersive viewing experience with decent angles. However, image accuracy is lost when viewing off-center, making it great for media consumption. Although it is suited for bright rooms as it easily overcomes glare, it isn't ideal for dark rooms due to the low contrast ratio.

Comparison vs LG 34GN850-B - The 34GN850-B and 34GP83A-B are almost identical when set to factory settings. The 34GN850-B is dark with a regular LG logo, and that's the most noticeable difference. Other differences include the better contrast in the 34GP83A-B, but it may vary between units, the OSD that differs in the menu. Regarding inputs, the 34GP83A-B only has 1 DP, while the 34GN850 has 2 DP and 2 HDMI cables. Both units run at 10-bit 144Hz. Moreover, having the 34GN850s means you already have one of the best monitors, but if you're looking for a new 34-inch IPS, then the 34GP83A-B is the way to go. In terms of hardware, they are identical only at a lesser price, which is good for consumers. The stand doesn't have much wobble and is VESA compatible for 100x100 millimeters with a cable management hook at the back. Overall, they have the same stand, dimension, chassis, and bezels, and one of the only cosmetic differences is on the back.

Comparison vs LG 34GP83A-B vs LG 34GP83A - The LG 34GP83A-B is the successor of the LG 34GK950F, which features a similar 34″ 3440×1440 144Hz Nano IPS panel, but with a faster 1ms GtG response time speed and certified G-SYNC compatibility. Also, the LG 34GN850 model features identical specifications to the LG 34GP83A, yet it is priced at $200 more.
