Overview - The 1650 variant can get quite hot when pushed to 5700u but can also provide 9-10 hours of battery life with light usage. The screen at 1090p, and matte 14” can get bright enough but nothing out of ordinary. Build quality is sturdy enough although some units have bent keyboards and trackpad gaps. Overall, nothing is better considering its light weight for light usage. Though the Xiaoxin Pro 16 with 3050ti may be a better option.

Screen/Speakers - Coming from the Dell Inspiron Gaming 15” laptop, the Acer Swift X provides great satisfaction for its form factor. Screen is adequate but could be brighter, and headphone or earbuds are a must for gaming or watching as the speakers are not that great.

Thermals - It would be a greater device if the thermals were properly reviewed although it’s already an amazing mid-range combo with Ryzen 5 and a proper GTX 1650 GPU.

Budget/Portability - It is similar to a traditional ultrabook or slim laptop that you can carry to school. It has a dedicated GPU which makes its price range reasonable. If you’re a previous user of Acer Swift 3, the laptop will also feel very familiar. Also, there’s a few color options available.

Bezels - The Acer laptops are great because of their value for money, however, the bezels are not too pleasing for the eye. It doesn’t look great because of the plastic material that was used although it looks much better than its predecessor. Additionally, the bezels surrounding the screen are skinny enough for Acer to still find a space for the webcam at the top.

Build Quality - Its build quality is solid enough but not groundbreaking, its screen brightness is just enough, color is also accurate, speakers are of average quality, and the configuration 5800U/3050Ti is great. Quality may be disappointing for users coming from a metal built laptop as the aluminum alloy feels cheap, and the plastic-like material doesn’t feel sturdy enough.

Build - Focusing on the design, a thinner bezel would look much better, as having a thick lower bezel in a 16 x 9 aspect ratio makes it look like a lower gen. The top and side screen bezels are thin, webcam has no security shutter, although there’s a function key to mute the mic, there’s also a fingerprint reader below the keyboard for skipping passwords with Windows Hello, and an Amazon Alexa joined the AMD and Nvidia label on the palm rest.

However, the only colored parts are the lid, a narrow strip above they keyboard, and the display hinges while the rest is in silver color, which results to a two-tone look. Layout - The only con in the Acer Swift X’s keyboard is the crammed arrow keys, you’ll have to disable the Page Up and Page Down button to use them properly as it can get pressed accidentally when using the arrow keys. Anti-Reflection - The top brightness levels plus the anti-reflective surface of the Acer Swift X contributes to the harsh indoor lighting, making it harder to see.

Display - Aspect Ratio - The 14” display of the Acer Swift X features a 1920x1080, which is a full HD resolution, and it also has a 100% support for sRGB color gamut with peak brightness of 300 nits. Specifically, the color gamut range is 96% sRGB, 26% NTSC, 72% Adobe RGB and P3 color spaces. Images look bright with vibrant color and good contrast. However, the 16:9 screen ratio limits the amount of vertical space for design works as compared to a 16:10 ratio in a the HP Envy 14, and a Macbook Pro.

Innolux - The brightness depends on the model that you will get, there’s a screen model called Innolux which doesn’t get as bright as the AU model, though the AU model gets too bright plus it’s a matte screen, and it has an overclockable refresh rate. Color reproduction on both is the same and watching media is good.

Screen Finish - The matte finish on the Swift X’s screen will help depending on what type of environment you are in, if you are in a room with lots of reflection, then the matte screen will help reduce that.

Screen Color - The Acer colors were as accurate as advertised, but when put beside the iMac 24 M1, and the Surface Laptop 1st gen, the colors on the Acer looked muddy, which can also be because of the matte screen coating. Also, some of the color transitions were wrong, and the 16:9 ratio can feel restrictive for photo editing although it’s fine for gaming and movies.

Screen - The Swift X’s 14”, non-touch screen display is sufficient enough and not overly bright with good contrast. Viewing angles are broad, backgrounds are nicely white, however, colors don’t pop, it’s reasonably saturated but not rich nor vivid. Also, fine details are adequately sharp for 1080p.

Display Ratio - Purpose - The 16:9 ratio feels too restrictive, and feels like the display is cramped making it hard to recommend for creative works. A 15.6 inch or larger laptop is not necessary but a 16:10 ratio in a 14” laptop would be enough for creative activities and tasks. Overall, this laptop would be a better fit for students and office workers as it’s light enough to carry around, and also powerful enough for gaming.

AMD - AMD is bringing better performance at lower prices. The Swift X as an ultrabook with its performance makes it a good competitor in the market but not enough to be on par with gaming and pro laptops. Solid value only if not for the design.

FPS - The NVIDIA 3050 Ti on the Acer Swift X is expected to get over 60 fps in demanding games such as Call of Duty: War Zone, Control, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Minecraft.

The Tech Chap

Graphics Card - The new RTX 3050 and 35050 Ti cards contributes to the improvement in raw performance and teraflops, and also provides the value added that comes with being in the RTX family, so there’s now access to ray tracing DLSS, and Nvidia’s reflex and broadcast. The 3050 Ti may not be near the top of Nvidia’s offerings but it is the most game-ready silicon in the group.

Performance - Reasons on why it is better than MBA is because of the fan, 16 GB RAM, better GPU for gaming, more ports, and no worries for optimizing games from CPU to WindowsOS.The performance for Photoshop is almost similar to the high-end H-series processors. As compared to the HP Envy 14’s GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q, the Swift X’s RTX 3050 Ti still performs better than the HP Envy 14, and it has more capability to handle content creation tasks. The Swift X completed a conversion of a 30GB movie to Android table format in nearly half the time of HP Envy 14 using the HandBrake utility, which is an intensive task that taxes the CPU and all of its cores.
