Durability - PM2 is a great knife investment that can last you for a long time and even a lifetime.

Cherokee Observer - Cherokee Observer Team

Durability Recommendation
Performance - The PM2 holds well for field use, as the edge can hold up well for outdoor cutting tasks. However, the knife is not recommended for such as long as you don't use it for such tasks daily, then the opening and closing mechanism and its durability won't be affected.

Cherokee Observer - Cherokee Observer Team

Performance Frequeuncy of Use
Overview - The PM2 has everything for an EDC knife, with its ergonomics, portability, and blade performance, which makes it worth the price. Specifically, the PM2 is easy to use, reliable, durable, and resistant to most abuse. Also, the lanyard hole is bigger and more useful and can take 2 lengths of 550 paracords. For cleaning, it just needs to be washed with soap and water, and it wouldn't affect the deployment mechanism.

Cherokee Observer - Cherokee Observer Team

Overview Ergonomics Portability Performance Value Price Durability Maintenance
Design & Build - Most find the PM2 ugly but what makes it look great is its functionality and quality. However, a zippered pouch would be appreciated for the price it is offered.

Recommendation - The PM2 will never disappoint, and it doesn't have omega springs for people who don't like that. Overall, the PM2 is a recommendable knife.

Deployment & Lock

  • Axis Lock vs Compression Lock
  • Compression Lock
  • Deployment
  • Deployment & Lockup
  • Opening & Closing
  • Vault Lock Up
  • Positive
  • Negative
Axis Lock vs Compression Lock - The axis lock is more satisfying than the compression lock as the round part transitions more smoothly; it also has a better closing mechanism, which doesn't have a bounce-back action, and the trigger pressure is more satisfying. On the other hand, the compression lock lacks smoother transitions and has a bounce-back action on closing; there's also no detent, only the spring pressure that holds the blade.

REAPER-1_xxx

Axis Lock vs Compression Lock Comparison
Source
Compression Lock - The compression lock on the PM2 is located at the knife's spine, which requires it to be closed with one hand. Also, this locking mechanism will not fail on most uses unless the blade crushes the locking tab, and an issue that may arise is for users with big hands, as closing the knife may cause pinching of the palm. Overall, the deployment and locking mechanism are solid with no blade play and provide a safer operation as your finger won't come to the knife path when closing.

Benchmade 940 vs PM2 - Both formidable EDCs but PM2 has better edge. The 940 is super light and thin, and its stainless steel handle won’t rip up your jeans as much as the PM2’s G-10 but at the sacrifice of a less grip. The PM2’s blade is better at cutting given the flat grind and extra belly versus the 940, consider the 940 as a high performance gentleman’s knife whereas the PM2 is more of a tactical warrior.

Benchmade Bugout vs PM2 - They have the same amount of cutting edge, similar functional grip, handle thickness though the carry profile is bigger in PM2. Benchmade is lighter, and PM2 has longer and wider blade. PM2 is more of a hefty do anything kind of knife while the Bugout is a lightweight EDC kind of knife. The Bugout has a butterfly tax which turns most people away. Also, the Bugout is better in the pocket while the PM2 is better in the hand.

Benchmade Griptilian vs PM2 - The Griptilian is comfortable but it feels totally different in your hands versus the PM2. The grip fills your hand a little more but feels far more plasticky, which can put some people off. The PM2 has superior steel while the Benchmade axis lock is excellent though it’s sub-par against the PM2’s compression lock.

Buck 110 vs PM2 - The Buck 110 has a heavier build and thicker handle, PM2 has thicker blade stock. Overall, they’re almost similar size.

Manix 2 vs PM2 - The Manix 2 comes with more jimping, which provides more traction. Also, the PM2’s pocket clip has 4 mounting positions versus the 2 on the Manix. Where the PM2 excels is the compression lock, which is superior to the Manix 2’s ball lock.

Paramilitary vs Paramilitary 2 - The Paramilitary is a good knife but the PM2 is definitely a better upgrade.

PM3 vs PM2 - Overall, the PM3 is just a smaller version of the PM2 as they have almost similar features and functionality. Furthermore, the PM3 can take the handle scales without modifying the liners while the PM2 can’t. The PM2 is more suitable for heavier tasks while the PM3 is for lighter tasks.

S110v vs PM2 - The s110v is going to be an extremely high edge retention and corrosion resistant steel. For that high end performance, it does lose some toughness as a trade-off there.

Shaman vs PM2 - The Shaman is better in terms of carving and hard push cuts. On the other hand, PM2 is a great knife for EDC and cutting tasks just not for the tough activities.

Spotting fakes

  • Fake Spyderco Paramilitary 2
  • Methods to spot fake knife
  • Other tips
  • Positive
  • Negative
Fake Spyderco Paramilitary 2 - Most fake PM2s are cloned perfectly to match the looks and design of the real product, which makes it hard to differentiate them.

Cherokee Observer - Cherokee Observer Team

Fake Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Identification
Methods to spot fake knife - Check the locking mechanism cutout, number of liner holes, the direction of jimping, and test the blade steel. The locking mechanism should have a rounded corner, there should be 2 liner holes, jimping should be backswept, and the steel should take time to sharpen than cheap steels.

Other tips - Genuine PM2s usually comes with tip down pocket clip position, but counterfeits come with the tip down clip position, the lanyard hole tube on the real PM2 comes smoother and polished, but the one on most fakes feel dull and isn’t chamfered on the ends, all fake liners come in black coating, genuine PM2 handle has straight-sided scales with small chamfer on the edge while fakes have rounded scales, the coating on counterfeits blades is painting rather than the actual DLC coating and tends to scratch pretty easily, and digital camo handle for clones has a lighter shade in addition to light-colored circles around drilled holes on the handle.
