The Benchmade 940 2 is a fancy-looking knife that you can match with formal clothes when you go to fancy places. However, despite its high price, it cannot be used for tough tasks. The 940-2 has an unimpressive grind on edge in terms of cutting and slicing, and the green back spacers are not as attractive. Also, it’s not available in the customizer.

Overview - The 940-2 holds a sharp edge, sharpens well, is strong and durable, and has a nice blade shape and profile, making it attractive. The 940-2 has great edge-holding ability as well. Overall, the 940-2 has a great fit and finish, although there's a grind on edge, and the centering of the blade is slightly off.

Blade - The 940-2 comes with an S30V stainless steel blade with a reverse tanto shape, which offers good balance, lightweight, good edge retention, and corrosion resistance. Additionally, there's no blade play in all directions, and the blade is perfectly centered. Performance-wise, it may not be a good cutter because of the thickness behind the edge and near the tip, though it makes the top sturdier.

Blade Steel - The CPMBS30V steel used for the blade is 3.4" long, and it is a hardened and power-made wear and corrosion-resistant steel developed by Dick Barber of Crucible Industries in collaboration with Chris Reeve, who is a custom knife maker. Also, it's premium-grade knife steel used for higher-end production and custom knives, making it expensive. Performance-wise, the steel is more effective in cutting, and it is easier to grind than other common types of steel.

Build - The 940-2 uses a G10 for their handle scales with green barrel spacers and a satin-finished blade with a reverse tanto shape. Overall, it is a lightweight knife and grippy even in wet conditions, with its jimping that provides depth and dimension. However, the jimping is not consistently going from shallow at the sharpening choil, deeping out at the belly, and shallowing back up at the tip. Also, it features an axis lock mechanism.

Carrying Clip - The reversible pocket clip is ambidextrous in a standard tip-up position. Performance-wise, the clip is flimsy, and if it gets caught on things, you'll have to unscrew it and bend it back. Additionally, you can use a deep carry clip for a better pocket carry.

Design - The scale design of the 940-2 is more interesting than the 940-1. The 940 has an appearance that is not common in the market, with a modern twist to the traditional line design of knives. Also, it has a pleasing design that is one of the prettiest.

G10 - The handle of the 940-2 is made of G10 material, which is durable and has a good hand feel because it is smooth. Specifically, it is a 3D milled laminate of fiberglass and resin. Performance-wise, it provides a great grip even in wet conditions.

Functionality - The 940-2 is highly functional and distinctive as it's easier to carry and conceal in the pocket as it's a folding knife, doesn't require a sheath to carry, and is smaller and lightweight overall. A folding knife would be the best choice for users carrying their knives in cities or suburban areas. On the other hand, full-tang knives would be better for bringing out in the woods, batoning, and skinning animals.

Action - After breaking through the knife with some pivot tuning, the deployment and lockup will be of a machine. Flipping with the thumb stud is effortless, and the axis lock provides a smooth fall-shut action.

Axis Lock - The axis lock mechanism is accessible from both sides. Specifically, it works through the small, hardened steel bar that rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spans the liners, and is positioned over the rear of the blade. When it is opened, it engages a ramped tang portion of the knife blade. Two omega-style springs on each liner give the locking bar its inertia to engage the knife tang. As a result, the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the axis bar itself. Furthermore, the knife is opened through the thumb stud, and once can it's fully open, it locks the blade into place while pulling the axis lock with your thumb unlocks the blade so you can close it up. It can take up to 200 lbs of downward pressure, so it's very unlikely to break and let the blade fold back toward the handle, hence your hand.
